Financial thinking starts here

Building Real Investment Thinking Through Active Practice

You won't find lectures about theory here. What we do is walk through actual market scenarios together—the kind of situations you'll encounter when managing your own portfolio. It's hands-on from day one.

Most people leave our sessions with a clearer sense of how markets actually behave, not just what textbooks say they should do. That gap between theory and reality? That's where we spend most of our time.

Learning By Actually Doing The Work

We use case studies from real markets across 2024 and early 2025. You'll analyze what happened, why it happened, and what someone could have done differently. The focus is on recognizing patterns you might miss at first glance.

Our sessions run small—usually eight to twelve people. This lets everyone participate without getting lost in a crowd. You'll present your thinking, hear others' perspectives, and adjust your approach based on what you learn from the group.

  • Work through portfolio scenarios adapted from actual Canadian market conditions
  • Practice risk assessment using frameworks that scale with your experience level
  • Build analysis skills through repeated exposure to different market environments
  • Get detailed feedback on your decision-making process, not just outcomes

Three Core Components That Shape Your Progress

Each element builds on the others. Skip one and you'll notice the gap pretty quickly.

1

Scenario Workshops

Twice a week, we tackle a new market situation. You'll get the data, form your hypothesis, then defend it to the group. It's intense but you learn faster when you have to articulate your reasoning out loud.

2

Portfolio Simulations

You manage a simulated portfolio over several months. Every decision gets tracked. We review what worked, what didn't, and more importantly—why you made each choice at that specific moment.

3

One-on-One Reviews

Monthly check-ins where we dig into your specific challenges. Maybe you're overcomplicating analysis, or maybe you're avoiding decisions because you lack confidence. We address those patterns directly.

Torsten Lagevik

Lead Investment Educator

Torsten spent fifteen years analyzing Canadian equity markets before he started teaching. He's seen three major market corrections up close and watched hundreds of portfolios through various cycles. That experience shapes how he approaches education.

He doesn't promise shortcuts or secret formulas. What he offers is a methodical way to think about risk, allocation, and long-term positioning. His style is direct—he'll tell you when your reasoning has holes, but he'll also show you how to fix them.

Students appreciate that he uses examples from his own analysis work, including the mistakes he made early in his career. That honesty makes the learning process feel less intimidating and more like building a practical skill you can actually use.
